Inside MasonryWorx Special Edition 2011

Jan 24, 2012

A Message from President Dante Di Giovanni   The building industry has a focus on our future: Green Building, LEED® Standards, Environmentally- friendly structures, Durability, Sustainability and Eco Smart thinking are all topics of the promotion, research and best practices in construction today.   MasonryWorx is in tune with this movement. We have made many steps in the recent months to move our industry forward while preserving the lessons of the past.   Generations before us had it right. It’s not hard to see why essential buildings were made of masonry. Masonry designs create beauty, and produce structures that serve the needs of society, proving their durability and preserving a cultural legacy for generations.

MasonryWorx_2011_SpecEd_Newsletter_web-1.jpgLandmark masonry structures are signatures of their past, educating us about a way of life and the character of their builders. From the Coliseum to Britain’s castles and the impressive cathedrals of Europe, all are examples of the work of great masons. If these buildings were books, they would be an illustrative historical account, inviting the reader to experience architecture at its best, showcasing visually alluring buildings and structures which have endured for centuries.

History has demonstrated that masonry is synonymous with sustainability and durability. Masonry has survived earthquakes, fires, wars, and natural weathering. Masonry adds true meaning to the phrase: “Withstanding the Test of Time.”

In today’s design world, high performance buildings demand ecological balance, and masonry construction is a key component of this imperative. Designers must also consider aesthetics and the life span of the building as important factors for sustainability. Only then can the legacy of our times as reflected through our buildings be realized.

Inside MasonryWorx Special Edition, 2011 is an informative guide for members and allies — one you will want to retain for future reference. Providing insight into the construction sector with a focus on the masonry industry, we are taking a look at our construction industry’s past few years and providing glimpses into the future.

Manufacturers continue to make strides: offering quality products and innovative new shapes, colours, and textures to enhance the designer’s palette, maintaining commitment to improve aesthetics and to heighten the sustainability of buildings and structures. New design software helps engineers to design masonry structures easier and faster.

MasonryWorx has made a commitment to educate the public, support the efforts of the design, construction and planning communities and be responsive to the development of the masonry industry. We actively pursue all opportunities to meet with politicians to discuss key issues that affect our industry, and offer assistance to government officials at all levels in achieving their social mandate for the betterment of all Ontarians.

In closing, I would like to thank all our members for their contribution to MasonryWorx. Your dedication and concerted efforts have made this organization effective, vibrant and forward-thinking. It is the collaboration between the association and our members that makes MasonryWorx so strong!
